In 2023, I had the immense pleasure and honor of mentoring 15 Nigerien Ph.D. students and postdoctoral researchers. These students and postdocs work and live in several countries around the world (e.g., Niger, France, Morocco, Canada, USA, etc.). Mentoring this first cohort has not only allowed me to learn more about research done by Nigeriens but also to share my knowledge and experience with these young Nigeriens. These students and postdocs work with determination to advance our scientific knowledge in very cutting-edge areas such as renewable energies, physics, hydrology, urbanization, nuclear power, mathematics, and many others.
We had 14 mentoring sessions (including 3 in France, Morocco, and Niger) during which we had the immense honor of discussing with the 2019 Nobel Prize in Physics Didier Queloz, a World Bank administrator, the Nigerien Abdoul Salam Bello, and a World Bank expert, the Nigerien Halimatou Hima.
In the video below, I am pleased to share with you the profiles of some of my 2023 mentees.
